After You're Offered Financial Aid

After receiving your financial aid offer you have a few more steps to complete the process and ensure that all financial aid materials are completed. If you have any questions about your next steps please contact your financial aid counselor.

You can access your aid offer through the Financial Aid Requirements channel in MyBethel.

1. Review Financial Aid Terms and Conditions

By accepting your financial aid offer, you agree to fulfill all of the terms and conditions set forth by federal and state regulations and institutional policies.

2. View your estimated bill

View your estimated bill after you have been offered financial aid for the school year. You can view your estimated billing through your My Statement and Finances channel in MyBethel. Reviewing your bill will help you know how much your costs will be at Bethel each semester.

3. Accept or Decline Your Gift Aid

If you have been offered grants and scholarships, you will need to accept or decline your offered gift aid. This is done by accessing your financial aid offer through your Financial Aid Requirements channel in MyBethel. Once accepted, you will also need to complete one online thank you note. Please note, only one thank you note is required per academic year. Please allow one business day for our system to reflect receipt of the thank you note.

4. Accept or Decline Your Loans

If you need to borrow loans, compare your options. This will help you find the best loan for you.

When you know which loan(s) you'd like to borrow, you will need to accept or decline your offered loans by accessing your financial aid offer through your Financial Aid Requirements channel in MyBethel.

Select the appropriate academic year from the drop down list.

Click the Accept Award Offer tab. Decide how much of your Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan or PLUS/Private Loan Eligibility you want to borrow for the full year, and follow the instructions.

Click Submit Decision.

a. If you accept your Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan and you're a new Bethel borrower, you must complete both loan entrance counseling and a master promissory note (MPN). Be sure to select “Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and “Complete Entrance Counseling”. These are two distinct separate steps on the website. Select Minnesota as the School State when completing these requirements. You will need reference information for two people with different U.S. addresses.

b. If you accept the PLUS/Private Loan Eligibility this indicates to the Financial Aid Office that either your parent will be applying for a PLUS loan or the student will be applying for a Private Loan. There is a separate application process for these loans. Applications are available after April 1st.

5. Complete Verification

About 1 out of 4 FAFSA filers must provide additional information to verify the accuracy of their income, family size, and other FAFSA data. This process is called Financial Aid Verification. Check to see if you need to provide additional information by looking at your financial aid requirements in MyBethel (see step #11 below).

6. Special Circumstances

If your family has experienced reduced income or unusual and non-discretionary expenses, you may want to submit an appeal to be considered for additional financial aid.

7. Explore Outside Assistance

a. Consider applying for other assistance, such as private scholarships, employer reimbursement, TEACH Grant (for Education majors) and the Church Partnership Scholarship.

b. Notify the Financial Aid Office of any assistance you are receiving from outside of Bethel that is not listed on your financial aid offer.

To report private grants, scholarships or employer reimbursement, access your financial aid offer through your Financial Aid Requirements channel in MyBethel. Then, select the appropriate academic year from the dropdown list.

Once you're in your award information, click the Resources/Additional Information tab and follow the instructions.

To report military benefits please complete the Military Benefits Verification form.

8. Notify Financial Aid of Changes in Enrollment Assumptions

Enrollment and housing assumptions were used to prepare your financial aid package offer and were listed on the top of your offer. If you enroll in less than the number of credits listed on your award, your aid will be reviewed and some adjustments may be necessary. Use the online update form to notify the financial aid office of changes in your anticipated enrollment.

9. Sign up for a payment plan

You may enroll in a monthly payment plan to help you pay month by month. Payment plans are available for Fall semester after July 10th.

10. Find a campus job

The 2023-2024 Student Employment Application will open for work-study eligible students around March 1, 2023. Applications must be submitted by May 15. If you miss the May 15 deadline or are not work-study eligible or you're a returning student, you can still find a job on campus-watch for job listings

11. Check Your Status

View the status of your documents and requirements through your Financial Aid Requirements channel in MyBethel. Items marked with a red flag need to be completed. Click on the link provided to complete an item.
