Bethel University has announced the launch of the Jeremiah 29 Scholarship (J29), a new program designed to equip students with financial support, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities. Rooted in Bethel’s mission of academic excellence, Christ-centered service, and diversity and inclusion, the J29 Scholarship aims to empower students—especially those from urban communities—to lead with vision, serve others, and excel academically.
Each year, 10 students will be selected as J29 Scholars, receiving $2,500 annually for four years. When combined with the Bethel Promise Grant, these two gifts may cover most of the tuition for selected scholars. Beyond financial assistance, J29 Scholars will engage in leadership training, academic enrichment, and service initiatives, preparing them to make a lasting impact in their communities.
As a J29 Scholar, students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop leadership skills rooted in vision, reconciliation, and transformation
- Serve their communities through meaningful projects that create lasting impact
- Achieve academic success with personalized support and enrichment programs
J29 serves as Bethel’s internal replacement for the Act Six program, which was previously run through a third-party organization and discontinued last year at Bethel and other Minnesota colleges. By launching J29, Bethel reaffirms its dedication to supporting and empowering students through leadership and scholarship opportunities, reflecting Bethel’s commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive community that prepares students to thrive and lead with purpose.
To qualify, students must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate financial need, and commit to living on campus for all four years. Applicants must also meet the family income standards required for the Bethel Promise Grant, a need-based aid program that significantly reduces tuition costs for eligible Minnesota residents. The J29 Scholarship provides an additional $2,500 per year to support students with financial need. Applicants should also exhibit strong leadership potential, academic promise, and a dedication to serving others.
The application deadline is February 15, 2025. Interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Selected semifinalists will be invited to an on-campus experience in March, where they will participate in leadership activities, interviews, and service projects.
