Cultural Intelligence
Inclusive Excellence
At Bethel, we strive to equip everyone with the ability to interact well with others in complex cross-cultural situations.
That’s why we’ve implemented Cultural Intelligence, or CQ, training across the university. Cultural Intelligence, or CQ, is a globally recognized way of assessing and improving effectiveness in culturally diverse situations. Certified providers are providing tools to equip employees—and ultimately our students—to lead, relate, and serve in an increasingly multicultural world. Embedding CQ throughout Bethel’s community will help us all flourish in our roles and relationships at Bethel and beyond.
Why CQ?
CQ is aimed at helping people identify their strengths and areas for improvement—all to help each person find opportunities to function more effectively in multicultural and diverse settings.

CQ is aimed at helping people identify their strengths and areas for improvement—all to help each person find opportunities to function more effectively in multicultural and diverse settings.Though we could have picked an easier topic of conversation, we decided to address something difficult and came away with a much better understanding of each team member's needs and how to begin making changes.

It was fascinating to me to see the areas that our department were all extremely similar. It provided definition and context as to why we react a certain way in various situations.

Our team feels more connected to Bethel's overall mission as this practical training has equipped us to better serve the community that we are in.

The workshop reminded us that it's very normal for individuals to be different and that the difference and uniqueness we each bring to our team only adds to the richness and broader vision in our day-to-day operations.
