We've developed partnerships with charter schools and local districts that provide students with additional opportunities for hands-on learning. Plus, our Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) tutoring training program and partnerships have given students the chance to receive compensation for field placement hours.

Kristi Berg
Job: Minnesota Zoo STEM Specialist
Degree: Elementary Education
Kristi Berg ’07 loves animals, science, and teaching kids. After exploring those loves at Bethel by pairing education and biology courses, she’s found her perfect role at the Minnesota Zoo. “This is kind of my dream job,” she says. At the zoo, blends her interests as she creates the zoo’s education curriculum and leads the ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge, which is a great example of how Berg and the zoo partner with schools to find ways the zoo’s animals and exhibits can spur students’ creativity and problem-solving in the classroom.

Many graduates also work in curriculum development, youth ministry, or nonprofit leadership, and some pursue roles in educational publishing or community education programs. If you want to advance your career further, a teaching degree also creates a strong foundation for graduate studies in areas like counseling, administration, or special education. And Bethel offers several graduate-level education programs for you to earn a certificate, additional license, master’s, and Ed.D. You’ll start observing and assisting in classrooms during your first year. Bethel partners with local schools for student teaching placements, and many students complete additional internships or service-learning projects. These early and ongoing experiences ensure you graduate classroom-ready and confident in your teaching skills.
- Yes. Many students combine education with majors like Spanish or English to expand their teaching credentials and job opportunities. You can also pursue specialized teaching fields such as communication arts and literature education, math education, music education—either vocal or instrumental—or social studies education. Bethel’s flexible curriculum and dedicated advisors make it possible to customize your academic path without extending your time to graduation.

First, apply to Bethel University as an undergraduate student. Once enrolled, you’ll apply to the education department during your introductory education courses, EDU 200 and EDU 201, after completing at least one semester at Bethel and meeting the minimum GPA requirements for your major. Start your application and explore how you can become a difference-maker in education.

To become a licensed teacher in Minnesota, you must complete a state-approved education program, successfully complete the Education Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) for a Tier 4 license, pass the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) and basic skills exams, and apply through the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). Bethel’s education programs meet these standards and prepare you with both knowledge and hands-on experience. Student teaching must be completed at Bethel and cannot be transferred in. Advisors and faculty walk with you every step of the way to ensure a smooth path to licensure.

You can also advance your expertise after earning a bachelor’s degree through Bethel’s M.A. in Special Education, M.A. in Education K-12, Doctor of Education: Leadership in K-12 Administration, and more. These programs combine expert instruction with field-based learning to help you confidently support students with diverse needs.
