Major/Minor Image

The Bethel major in Mathematics with Education 5-12 Licensure is comprised of a complete undergraduate B.A. in Mathematics along with all education courses required to meet Minnesota standards for middle and high school teachers. Along with mathematical studies, you’ll learn best modern practices for preparing and presenting lessons to help your students stay engaged and retain what they learn.

Why should I study math education?

Bethel graduates of the Mathematics with Education 5-12 Licensure program consistently perform above or significantly above state and national averages on mathematics content and/or pedagogy licensure examinations (Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations). We continue to receive excellent feedback from the regional education community regarding the superior work ethic, integrity, and mathematics content preparation of our graduates.

What unique experiences or opportunities will I have?

While at Bethel, math students can earn money as teaching assistants or as tutors in Bethel's MathLab, which is recognized as a national innovator in providing math support for undergraduate math students. These opportunities also provide experience communicating mathematical concepts in an easy-to-understand way and grading student work.
