Bethel offers a variety of courses at all levels during three terms of the summer. Each term includes options for online, hybrid, and face-to-face course formats.

Why take a summer school course?

Are you a new student starting at Bethel this fall who wants to get a jumpstart on their studies? A current Bethel student who wants to graduate early, add a minor, or make room in your schedule to study abroad? A student attending another university who needs to meet a requirement during the summer? Want summer courses where the Christian faith and a biblical perspective is brought together with the subject you are learning? Bethel Summer School may be the place for you.

The Convenience of Online

With most students working and travelling in the summer, taking a summer school course can be difficult. That’s why most of our summer school courses are online. You just need regular access to the internet and some time to work on your courses. We offer online courses from twelve different departments as well as many general education classes.

Important Considerations for Online Learning

Online learning is not right for everyone. Please read the information below before enrolling in an online class.

Is Online Learning Right for You?

  • Do you have enough time in your summer schedule to take a class?
  • Do you know how to manage your time well?
  • Are you self-motivated, doing your work and assignments without being reminded or having someone follow-up to make sure you're getting the work done?
  • Do you know how to figure out what you are supposed to do when given written instructions for an assignment?
  • Do you take responsibility for your learning?
  • Do you read well?
  • Do you express yourself well in writing?
  • Do/Did you get a B-average or better in your high school classes?
  • Do you understand that taking an online course is not easier than taking a face-to-face course?

If you answered yes to all these questions, online learning may be right for you. If you answered no to any of them, it may be best for you not to take an online course this summer. You or your circumstances may change in the future, so you may be a candidate for an online course another summer.

Requirements: You must have regular, reliable access to a computer and the internet. While you do not need daily computer/internet access, you will probably need to use your online connection 2-3 times a week.

Hybrid Courses

Hybrid courses will require you to meet with your class several times, but for the rest of the course you can be anywhere as long as you have internet access. The number of class meetings vary by course, so check the schedule to find a course that works with your summer plans.

Face-to Face Courses

You can spend part of the summer working closely with Bethel faculty by taking a face-to-face course. We offer a number of science, math, and computer science courses. You can also take American Sign Language, and courses that fulfill Bethel’s “A”, “K”, and “P” requirements.
