Library Liaisons

Each academic department or program at Bethel has a librarian assigned to support its faculty. Whether you'd like to schedule a library instruction session or have a librarian assist in acquiring resources for your courses or obtaining materials for your own research, your library liaison is ready to help.

Research librarians enhance the student learning experience in your courses by providing instruction in:

  • Identifying appropriate research resources in which to search
  • Using effective searching techniques and strategies
  • Using online indexes/databases
  • Using research tools such as RefWorks

Course Reserves

Books, DVDs, and other physical materials are put on reserve in the library in order to ensure that they are accessible to all of the students in a course. Get started using our online form:

Course Reserves Form

Putting Items on Reserve for a Course

  • Select Your Item(s)

Items may be from the library, or you can bring in items from your personal collection (which will be returned to you when the reserve period is over).
Note: Items from other libraries CANNOT be placed on reserve.

If the library doesn't own something you want on reserve, you may request that we purchase it using our materials request form. Please make your request at least 4 weeks before your students will need to access the item.

  • Make Copyright Determination

The library will facilitate placing items on reserve for students in strict accordance with U.S. Copyright Law. Most legitimately-obtained physical items are fine to put on reserve, but photocopies (especially multiple copies of the same item) often require permission from the copyright holder. It is the responsibility of the instructor to obtain permission when necessary.

  • Give Us Your Information

You can either fill out our online form (linked above) or fill out a paper form when you drop your items off. Please be sure that the information you give us matches your syllabus description.

While the library does not have an attorney on staff and cannot offer legal advice as you make copyright decisions, librarians can often help you think through the issues and questions you need to consider when dealing with copyright.

If you have copyright questions, view our guide to find information about commonly-asked copyright questions. For further assistance, contact information is available on the guide.

U of M Privileges

Faculty can obtain direct borrowing privileges for University of Minnesota library materials by submitting a copy of their appointment letter or contract for the current academic year. For more information, check out their page on Special Borrowing Privileges.

Search Alerts for Databases

Most library databases allow you to set up alerts so you will be informed immediately when new material is published on a topic of interest. We have put together a guide to walk you step-by-step through the process of setting up these alerts.
