Interlibrary loan requests can be made by current students, faculty, and staff using our LibSearch system. Using LibSearch you can:
- Submit and track the progress of all of your interlibrary loan requests.
- View and renew all of the items you have checked out in one place using your MyLibrary account (accessed within LibSearch). This includes items you have checked out from the Bethel library and items from other libraries.
- Download PDFs for articles and chapters you've requested for up to 60 days after they've been supplied in your MyLibrary account.
How to submit a request:
- Search for the item you are looking for in LibSearch.
- Scroll down and to see the request options available for that item.
- Sign into your MyLibrary account using your Bethel login. Look for a sign in link either in the upper right corner of the page or on a yellow/tan alert bar in the middle of the page.
- Click the request button, and submit the pre-populated request form that opens when you do.
- Your request is complete! You will get a follow up message to your Bethel email account letting you know when your item is ready.
If you don't see the item you are looking for in your search results, use the search beyond partner libraries link above the search results to search other libraries who could share with us.
If you still can't find the item, even after expanding your search, use the Still didn't find what you need? Click here to send a request link above the search results to place a request via a blank request form.
Overview of Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
No library, no matter now big or well-endowed, will have everything you may need. That's why ILL services are so important. Interlibrary loan simply means borrowing materials from other libraries when they aren't accessible from Bethel's collections. Usually, this means you send a request for the item to Bethel's library, we find another library that has it, they send it to us, and we pass it along to you for check-out. You may even be eligible to have it mailed to you. It may come from our local consortium or from anywhere in the world.
If it's an article you're after, the Bethel Library has millions you can access online in one of our databases. Sometimes you'll find an article title in one database, but the document (a.k.a. full-text) is really available in another database. The database with just the article title will have a link to search the Bethel Library for the article's full-text in another database. If that doesn't work, you'll have the option to request the article. And that request will be for, you guessed it, an interlibrary loan.
