Bethel offers a variety of opportunities for students to earn college credit while in high school, including Advanced Placement, College-Level Examination Program, International Baccalaureate, College in the Schools, Postsecondary Enrollment Option, and College Provided Faculty programs. Advanced Placement (AP), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) credits are earned through examination. Information about these programs can be found in the transfer credits section.

Postsecondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) courses are Bethel courses offered on campus or online. They are taught by Bethel faculty and comply with particular requirements of the State of Minnesota.

College in the Schools (CIS) courses are Bethel courses offered on high school campuses taught by qualified, Bethel-approved high school instructors. These programs are referred to as dual enrollment courses because students can earn high school and college credit at the same time. They are offered at no cost to the student. Bethel works closely with the high school instructors teaching these courses to ensure that CIS courses are equivalent in content and rigor as the same course taught on campus.

CIS courses afford a relationship intended to benefit both Bethel and the high school. Through these programs, Bethel has the opportunity to strengthen its relationship with a local school, share its disciplinary expertise, and increase the visibility of its programs and recruitment possibilities. The high school can offer a rigorous college-level course for which students receive college credit while being able to remain in the supportive environment of the high school and participate in co-curricular activities.

During the 2023-2024 academic year, CIS courses will be offered at the high schools below.

Registration Process

Bethel’s Office of Academic Affairs provides a registration form to high schools to distribute to participating students. High school students are advised to use their personal email address instead of their school email address to complete the form. The high school is responsible to confirm that the student has met all course prerequisites. Completed registration forms are submitted to the registrar’s office. Once the forms are received, the registrar’s office registers the students for the requested courses.

Policies and Procedures

Student Privacy

Students participating in CIS courses have full Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protection until the final grade is posted on the student’s high school transcript. Until that grade is provided, the high school (and the student's parent/guardian) do not have access to any student progress information without a signed release form from the student.

If a student desires to release their information to a parent or guardian, they may sign a Release of Information form.

Appeals

Appeals related to grades should be made as soon as possible following the decision in question. Students should seek to resolve the matter first with the instructor and then, if needed, the Bethel faculty liaison. If after talking with the instructor and the faculty liaison the matter is not resolved, students may appeal in writing to the dean of academic programs. Concerns about course content and procedures should be addressed first with the instructor and then with the Bethel faculty liaison. If after talking with the instructor and the faculty liaison, the issue has not been resolved, you may contact the dean of academic programs.
