Emergency Procedures
Safety & Security
Bethel has established procedures for several types of emergency situations. Emergency Response and Management information can help you learn how to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, and respond to an emergency situation on campus. Each classroom, office suite, residence hall room, and conference room has an "Emergency Procedures" notice that will detail the nearest safety shelter and evacuation assembly area as well as procedures to follow in the event of the following:
- Medical emergency
- Severe weather
- Fire
- Hazardous materials
- Suspicious behavior
- Suspicious object
- Active threat
It also outlines the following ways to take action:
- Lockdown your space
- Evacuate to a rallying point
- Seek shelter in the nearest shelter area
- Overcome, evade, defend, and help others
- Lockout by securing the perimeter
Several safety shelter areas have been established throughout campus for situations where the community might need to seek shelter, such as during severe weather.
If a building or buildings needs to be evacuated, evacuation assembly areas have also been established that will allow responders to account for people who were in the building and those who may still be in the building.
