Community Service Officer
Goal: Provide opportunities for student employees to contribute to the safety, security, and well being of the Bethel University Community.
Objectives: Ensure safety of community members; facilitate the security of academic buildings and residence halls; provide services to enhance the quality of the Bethel experience; and afford student employees with positive security role models.
The Position
Community Service Officers (CSOs) are customer-service practitioners who promote safety on campus by interacting with our community. CSOs answer and direct calls to the university switchboard, greet guests at the West Gate and Anderson Center reception desk, and perform traffic control for events. They also support Safety and Security operations by monitoring campus, dispatching units, and recording emergency responses on campus. CSOs are non-confrontational and do not act as law enforcement officers, but are expected to report any situations requiring security or other emergency response.

Requirements
- be prepared to work a minimum of 12-20 hours per week. CSO’s are scheduled around the clock in 4 hours shifts: evenings, overnights, and weekends. Employment opportunities continue over summer, holidays, and school breaks
- be a registered Bethel University student in good academic standing
- have a valid state driver's license
- pass a detailed background investigation
- be able to adhere to Covenant for Life Together at Bethel
- be able to work and communicate with the general public while maintaining an agreeable, professional demeanor that conforms to departmental standards
- be able to remain calm in stressful situations, utilizing common sense and problem solving skills.
- be able to write concisely and legibly
- be able to follow written and oral instructions, with minimal supervision
- be able to walk and stand for an extended period of time
- have vision correctable for safe and legal operation of a standard-equipped motor vehicle.
- be able to, given training, quickly and accurately manipulate the controls of a security radio, and be able to communicate effectively with and clearly understand a security dispatcher, via radio
