Internships & Placement
On-Site Supervisors
The on-site supervisor provides on-site direction, supervision, and evaluation of the intern, and meaningful experiences that provide opportunity to demonstrate and receive evaluation regarding degree program outcomes. Outcomes address:
- Biblical and Theological Foundations
- Personal and Spiritual Formation
- Transformational Leadership
- Intercultural Competence
- Whole-life Integration
The supervisor also performs a final evaluation of the student concerning integration of these outcomes.
The on-site supervisor must:
- Be licensed or ordained, as appropriate for the ministry context
- Have a graduate theological degree
- Have at least five years’ experience in ministry leadership at the level of preparation for ministerial practice envisioned for the student’s degree program. Accommodation can be made for unique circumstances with approval of the director of internship and placement.
- Not be a relative of the student for ethical reasons/conflict of interest (i.e. spouse, in-law, parent, cousin, aunt/uncle, grandma, etc.)
- Have been oriented to internship requirements
On-site supervisor orientation is completed as part of the internship preparation process.
Off-Site Mentors
The role of the off-site mentor is to facilitate the student’s spiritual and personal formation by means of regular reflection. The mentor’s focus in reflection is on the student’s identity related to calling.
The off-site mentor must:
- Be a credentialed professional in the student’s chosen field and ecclesiastical community, as appropriate to that community.
- Have completed graduate level professional theological education, and have at least five years’ experience in ministry leadership at the level of preparation for ministerial practice envisioned for the student’s degree program. Accommodation can be made for unique circumstances with approval of the director of internship and placement.
- Not be in the same line of authority or at the same location as the student's site supervisor.
- Not be a relative of the student for ethical reasons/conflict of interest (i.e. spouse, in-law, parent, cousin, aunt/uncle, grandma, etc.)
- Have been oriented to internship requirements.
