Benefits-eligible employees are eligible for life insurance beginning on the first day of employment. Basic life insurance, which is 1x the employee's annual salary, is paid 100% by Bethel. Employees also have the option to elect additional life insurance at their own cost, based on their age. If you are currently enrolled in Additional Life Insurance for an amount less than $200,000, you may elect to increase your coverage by one or two increments of $5,000 annually, up to, but not to exceed, the guarantee issue amount of $200,000 without having to answer health questions. Spouse coverage may be purchased in $5,000 increments up to $250,000 with the guarantee issue amount of $50,000. The voluntary child life benefit can be purchased in $2,000 increments up to a maximum of $10,000.
Basic and supplemental life insurance also include accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage for the employee. Additional coverage may be purchased. The cost of the coverage is $0.30 per $10,000 for employee coverage and $0.49 per $10,000 for family coverage.
